This pamphlet details how STDs affect young people and emphasizes effective prevention, including abstinence and prophylactic use. It warns that some sexually transmitted infections produce no symptoms but remain infectious to sexual partners. So a sexually active person might not have any idea that they are spreading a disease. In many cases, only a medical test can determine whether a potential partner is infected. Some infections are incurable and can last a lifetime.
